How to see failure positively

By Cognitive Compass LLP

When we strive to achieve anything in life, our natural inclination is to seek success. Success is gratifying, and the ability to persevere until we attain it is commendable. However, it's crucial to understand that our likelihood of success is deeply influenced by our attitude toward failure. If we view failure as a nightmare to be avoided at all costs, this fear can prevent us from engaging in activities that foster growth. The question then arises: Why do we want to be successful? Is it to please our parents, satisfy our own dreams, or to impress others? First, we must understand our own limitations, capabilities, and personality. Goals should not be set based on peer pressure or parental expectations. Success does not come from magical thinking but from a realistic understanding of oneself. Consider the recently released Indian movie "12th Fail," which depicts a student’s exceptional journey to crack the UPSC, one of the toughest exams at the graduate level. This story is an exception, not the norm. Many motivational speakers highlight such rare successes to inspire others, suggesting that anyone can achieve anything with enough effort. While motivation is important, unrealistic expectations can lead to frustration and negativity when results don't match the effort. Failure, though unpleasant, is a valuable teacher. Many successful individuals advise against thinking negatively, but it's also important to be prepared for the worst possible outcomes. This preparation can prevent your mind from being haunted by the fear of failure. Remember, you are not in control of everything. Even the best doctors can fail to save a patient. Ultimately, there is a higher power with a plan for everyone. While striving for your goals, never compromise your physical and mental health. Without good health and a peaceful mind, success can become more burdensome than failure. Failure, on the other hand, offers lessons that cannot be learned otherwise. Success is a progressive journey; even if you fail today, you gain invaluable experience and knowledge. In conclusion, a balanced perspective on success and failure is essential. Understanding your motivations, setting realistic goals, and maintaining your well-being are key to a fulfilling and progressive journey towards success.
