Passion
Hankering, Intense Endeavour and False pride

In the mode of passion, the individual is characterized by restlessness, attachment, and a strong drive for material enjoyment and success. This mode binds individuals to constant activity, fueled by desire and ambition, often at the cost of mental clarity and inner peace. In the mode of passion, one's intelligence becomes distorted by excessive engagement in worldly activities, making it difficult to discern what is truly beneficial from what is superficial. This excessive activity creates confusion in the mind, preventing it from finding stability and calm. In passion, the senses are heavily entangled with mundane objects, constantly seeking gratification. This attachment to material things—whether wealth, power, or sensory pleasures—makes it difficult for a person to rise above temporary, external pursuits. The desire to attain and possess becomes all-consuming, driving relentless effort and ambition. However, this attachment keeps the individual trapped in a cycle of unfulfilled wants, as the satisfaction derived from material success is temporary and often leads to further desires. The physical body, under the influence of passion, may also suffer due to the unhealthy overexertion and stress that comes from trying to achieve more. The working organs and systems of the body become strained, leading to physical imbalances and fatigue. Furthermore, the mind becomes unsteady and perplexed. It constantly shifts from one object of desire to another, creating inner turmoil. In this state, it becomes difficult to focus or find lasting contentment, as the mind is driven by the need to achieve, acquire, and compete. False pride also arises in the mode of passion, as one identifies heavily with accomplishments, status, and material success, leading to a sense of superiority or inflated self-worth. In summary, the mode of passion binds individuals to a life of restless striving, attachment to material gains, and unsteady mental states. It creates a sense of urgency to fulfill desires, but ultimately leaves one dissatisfied, as it cannot provide lasting fulfillment or peace.
