What causes people to have different likes and attractions?

The answer often lies in the influence of the three modes of material nature—goodness, passion, and ignorance. Each of these modes shapes our preferences, perceptions, and attractions in life, guiding us toward certain behaviors and choices. Mode of Ignorance People influenced by the mode of ignorance tend to be drawn to things that mirror their state of mind, which is often characterized by confusion, dullness, and inertia. They might be attracted to unhealthy or harmful substances and environments, such as junk food, intoxicants, or chaotic surroundings. These attractions often provide temporary relief or escapism from their struggles but can lead to long-term negative consequences. Mode of Passion Those dominated by the mode of passion are driven by desires and emotions, seeking stimulation and excitement. They are attracted to things that engage their senses and passions, such as spicy or richly flavored foods, ambitious pursuits, and intense relationships. Mode of Goodness They prefer things that are pure, healthy, and beneficial, like fresh fruits, vegetables, and wholesome activities. The mode of goodness fosters a sense of peace and well-being, encouraging individuals to make choices that support their health and spiritual growth. This alignment with higher values often leads to a more satisfying and meaningful life.
